Trophoblastic gestational neoplasia in the Center Hospital Pereira Rossell between 2019 and 2023:
a series of cases
Abstract
Introduction: Gestational trophoblastic neoplasia (GTN) refers to malignant tumors originating from the hyperproliferation of placental tissue following abnormal fertilization. Although it occurs infrequently in daily practice, it has a significant impact on patients’ reproductive prognosis. The objective of this study is to describe the cases of GTN occurring at the center Hospital Pereira Rossell, the diagnosis and treatment of this pathology and compare them with established international guidelines standards.
Methodology: An observational, descriptive, cross-sectional case series study was conducted between the years 2019 and 2023 at said center.
Discussion: Seven cases of GTN were found; five were invasive molar pregnancy and two were choriocarcinoma. The majority were staged as FIGO stage III (71.4%) and mostly had a low-risk prognostic score (57.1%). Treatment was administered according to international guidelines in all the GTN cases.
Conclusions: In six of the seven cases, a diagnostic and therapeutic approach consistent with international recommendations was followed, allowing for appropriate treatment and follow-up. Patients who adhered well to treatment showed a favorable outcome, with a generally positive prognosis, even in higher-risk cases.
