Assessment of quality of life in women with urinary incontinence
Abstract
Urinary incontinence affects the quality of life of a large number of women. It is often underestimated and underdiagnosed, since many women do not seek medical advice for this problem. For this reason, and given that there are no studies on the matter in Uruguay, it is relevant to carry out this research.
The objective was to study the impact on the quality of life of women with urinary incontinence who consult at the ‘Unidad de piso pélvico’ of the ‘Centro Hospitalario Pereira Rossell’, in the period between the January 1st. and June 30 of 2023. The impact it has on daily tasks and the workplace, how it affects
physical exercise and sexual health, and the relationship between the disease and the obstetric history. A descriptive, observational, cross-sectional study was carried out. The study population was characterized and two internationally validated questionnaires were applied: “ICIQ- LUTSqol” and “ICIQ-FLUTSsex”.
Based on the final score of the “ICIQ-LUTSqol” questionnaire, it is established that 100% of the participants presented a certain degree of impact on quality of life due to symptoms of urinary incontinence. A high incidence is evident in relation to quality of life and a great impact on a psychological level.
